The decision to move the event from the Silesian Stadium in Chorzów to the Katowice Spodek means a return to the place where almost a decade ago one of the largest concerts and mass events in Poland was organized.

We are going back to where the crowds had fun. The Spodek is an icon of Katowice and the entire region – said the voivodeship marshal during a press conference. Silesian Wojciech Saługa, who also informed that the Marshal's Office allocated PLN 3.5 million for the organization of the event. The entire event is expected to cost approximately PLN 6 million.

Vice-President of Katowice, Maciej Stachura, emphasized that the choice of Katowice was due to, among others, technical facilities in the culture zone, space availability and experience in organizing mass events. Spodek and the International Congress Center regularly host large-scale events, which, according to him, facilitates cooperation with broadcasters and television producers.

The last time New Year's Eve at Spodek was in 2017. (…) Our residents will gain another opportunity to spend their time attractively, and on the other hand, it is a great opportunity to promote the city – explained the vice president.

The event will be attended by, among others: Maryla Rodowicz, Doda, Justyna Steczkowska, Kayah, Dawid Kwiatkowski, Cleo, Margaret, Oskar Cyms, Michał Szpak and the Ich Troje band. As TVP representatives emphasized, the full program will be revealed gradually.

The “Śląsk” Song and Dance Ensemble will also take part in the event. Its director Zbigniew Cierniak announced the preparation of a “spectacular” performance, but did not reveal the details.

– There will be a surprise that we are still working on, he said.

Among the artists present at the conference was also singer Piotr Kupicha, from Katowice. He emphasized the development of the city and the experience of the organizers. – When someone comes here, they will want to stay longer – he emphasized.

The stage will be located on the square in front of Spodekand preparations for its installation will take several days. According to the announcement, it will be one of the largest television structures in Poland this year, with multi-level platforms, camera passages and extended space for viewers.

The city announced temporary changes in traffic organization in the area: closing part of Korfantego Avenue, introducing detours and additional zones for public transport. Cooperating services – the police, city guards and medical support – are to be strengthened due to the expected turnout.

The chairman of the board of the Upper Silesian-Zagłębie Metropolis, Kazimierz Karolczak, announced that the Metropolis is co-financing New Year's Eve for the first time and hopes that the event will rotate between the cities of the region in the following years.

– The metropolis consists of 47 cities and communes, we would like to organize New Year's Eve in various places. We plan to host Tychy next year, and then, among others, Sosnowiec, Gliwice and Bytom – revealed Karolczak.

“New Year's Eve with Two” will start on December 31 at 7:50 p.m. The broadcast will be provided by TVP2, and before the concert begins, a special “New Year's Eve tram” will run around the metropolis. The authorities encourage both residents of the region and viewers from all over Poland to participate in the event at the Spodek Arena or in front of their TV sets. (PAP)
