Maciej Świrski from KRRiT will stand before the State Tribunal. “I decided that I do not recognize this result”

On Friday, the Sejm advocated the constitutional responsibility before the State Tribunal of the National Broadcasting Council Maciej Świrski. The resolution causes Świrski to be suspended in activities. – I decided that I do not recognize this result – commented the chairman of the National Broadcasting Council.

The Sejm adopts a resolution on pulling to TS responsible by an absolute majority of votes in the presence of at least half (230) of the statutory number of deputies.

432 deputies voted. The absolute majority required is 217 votes. There were 237 deputies behind the application, 179 were against, 16 abstained.

The Sejm also decided that the prosecutor in the proceedings before the State Tribunal would be MP KO, lawyer Maciej Tomczykiewicz.

We apply to pull Mr. Maciej Świrski to constitutional responsibility before the State Tribunal. Not out of revenge, not out of emotion, but with an obligation to law and citizens – said on Thursday in the Sejm the chairman of the Sejm constitutional responsibility committee Zdzisław Gawlik.

KRRiT members may be erected before the State Tribunal for violating the constitution or law in connection with their position or in the scope of their office.

The Marshal of the Sejm, after the Sejm adopted a resolution of his prosecution, transfers a resolution together with documents to the Tribunal of State.

Świrski: I do not recognize the result of voting in the Sejm

The National Broadcasting Council will work as it has worked until now. I decided that I do not recognize this result – said the chairman of the National Broadcasting Council Maciej Świrski after the Sejm's decision to erect it before the State Tribunal.

– I will not resign, nor will I hang, nor will I change my position in the National Broadcasting Council – said the chairman of the National Broadcasting Council Maciej Świrski after voting in the Sejm, who decided to put him in front of the State Tribunal.

– I made a decision today, seeing the results of this vote that I do not recognize this result – he emphasized. Świrski pointed out that the National Broadcasting Council will work as it has worked until now.

Details of the dispute around KRRiT

In May last year A group of 185 MPs submitted a preliminary application for Maciej Świrski before the State Tribunal. Applicants accuse the head of KRRiT blocking approx. PLN 300 million from a subscription for public radio and television, blocking concessions for private broadcasters (TVN, TVN24, TOK FM radio, Radio ZET), as well as not performing statistical research on viewership of television stations in Poland.
