Elections in the Capital, under the sign of frustration: what the people of Bucharest say about candidates and parties

The results of the polls and the campaign in the Capital raise questions among voters. In several discussions on the Reddit platform, the people of Bucharest argue about the best option for the Capital City Hall, from a useful vote for a right-wing candidate to a vote against the big parties PSD and PNL.

A recent statement by the head of the PSD, Sorin Grindeanu, started extensive debates on the Reddit platform, with netizens questioning the party leader's support for his candidate.

PSD's intentions, debated by netizens

Sorin Grindeanu: “The real enemy of the people of Bucharest is Cătălin Drula”

The recent statement of Sorin Grindeanu, who indicated that the USR representative, Cătălin Drula, is “the real enemy of the people of Bucharest”seems to have the opposite effect to the desired one.

“He won votes”is the conclusion of an Internet user. Others also indicate that the stake would actually be the decrease in the percentages of Ciprian Ciucu, the PNL candidate: “That's not the intention. Drula is simply better in the polls than they present her. It's a declaration of fear“, “Plot twist. Grindeanu made this statement to help Baluta. Right-wing voters who would not go to PSD anyway are still analyzing whether to go with Ciucu or Drula. It's a bit strange that it comes out on the very day Vlad Gheorghe announces his support for Ciucu, right?”; “This statement brings Drula more votes than Ciucu receives from Vlad Gheorghe”.

The useful vote of the right

“So it's unreal. We end up in the hands of a thug or an extremist. All because of this infected system in one round. And some candidates who think they're in a completely different movie,” says an internet user in another discussion started on Reddit, criticizing both the USR candidacy and the one from PNL and Ana Ciceăla, who share the votes of right-wing voters.

The structure of the Bucharest electorate starts debates about the capital PSD and AUR actually have here:

“I was discussing with a Bucharest resident that it is not for the province to vote for the PSD/AUR bedbugs. I explained to him that Piedone and Negoiță already have a dynasty in Bucharest. This survey shows me exactly how the people of Bucharest think, 50% are clearly in favor of anti-EU theft”. says another netizen.

Another emphasizes the result of the last elections in the Capital, suggesting that the transfer of votes should have given a different electoral picture. “How can Alexandreasca and Băluță be in the first places when in 2024 Nicușor dan took almost 50% alone, and Firea 22% – exactly how many people vote for Alexandreasca/Băluță. It's hard for me to believe that the majority of Nicușor voters go to Ciucu, considering that these two did not get along and Nicușor indirectly accused Ciucu of being supported by the real estate mafia”.

Party interests

During the discussion on the platform, a different hypothesis is also launched, which refers to the potential of the future mayor of the Capital:

“I'm a USR voter, but I wouldn't mind if Drula withdraws, the polls clearly show that they have no chance, so if he or Ciceala don't withdraw, they will be the main culprits because PSD and AUR come out. They can't say this is my role as a party, to try to win power, I think you have to look a little at what happens as a result of your actions, otherwise it means you're only for yourself. On the other hand party, I don't think it would bother them so much if someone else came out, hoping that in 4 years there would be a better chance to take him down. If Ciucu won, I think it would be more difficult for them in 4 years. The eternal interests of the parties, USR, would not behave at all differently”.

Another internet user says that he will vote USR, because the liberals supported the local elections in one round. “I decided not to vote “usefully”, i.e. PNL instead of USR on the argument that anything but AUR should not come out, when PNL is not able to vote usefully to have the 2nd round. I came to the conclusion that PNL is PSD 2.0 and I will not vote with them for at least a while”he says.
