The Israeli Navy will start capturing the boat from the Global Sumud Flotilla in an hour. A state of emergency was announced on board the units – the organizers of the campaign, cited by the Reuters agency just before 20.
– We were surrounded by military ships that will soon arrive. It seems that we will be kidnapped and transported to Israel. This is the last moment of the global flotilla. The slogan “Free Palestine” does not cease to be important. I hope that we will soon be free again, but above all that all Palestinians will be free – said one of the participants of the humanitarian expedition. Flotilla announced that 20 Israeli warships were noticed around her. It was added that the ships approached about 3 nautical miles. The flotilla previously announced that there is less than 80 nautical miles (about 148 km) from the blocked Gaza area.
The units were received on Wednesday, as the activists themselves admitted, in the “high risk zone”. Although they are still in international waters, they were in the area where the Israeli Navy stopped other boats in the past trying to break the blockade of the Gaza Strip.
Activists informed earlier that at night from Tuesday to Wednesday, two Israeli war ships approached Łódź, encircling them and disturbing connectivity, including cameras on board. Activists added that if they are not stopped, they will reach Gaza on Thursday with humanitarian aid.
Earlier on Wednesday, Italy and Greece appealed to the Israeli authorities to guarantee the safety of the international flotilla, flowing with help for the Gaza Strip. The bosses of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of both countries also called activists to accept the readiness of intermediation in providing the help offered by the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem.
Israeli authorities have repeatedly repeated that they would not let the flotilla into the Gaza Strip, covered by a sea blockade.
The Polish MP flows to the Gaza Strip
The Sumud Flotilla is an international initiative in which representatives of over 40 countries participate. On board the units included in it also includes Poles, among them: MP for the Sejm of the Republic of Poland Franciszek Sterczewski, president of the Polish Palestinian Social and Cultural Association, Omar Faris, president of the Nomada Nina Ptak Association, and journalist and activist Ewa Jasiewicz, author of the book “Fan Gaza”.
“I confirm. We are less than 100 nautical miles from gauze. Alarm has been initiated. Everyone is in rescue vests on board. We are waiting for the development of events” – wrote a Polish parliamentarian on Wednesday afternoon.
