Holiday spending is on the rise. This is how much a Christmas tree and a carp cost this year

December has only just begun, and the first stands with Christmas trees and carps have already appeared in markets, parking lots and in front of supermarkets. For many Poles, it is not only a symbol of the upcoming holidays, but also an expense that must be included in the household budget every year. We checked how much you have to spend on a Christmas tree and traditional Christmas fish this year.

For this year's Christmas shopping, 56 percent Poles plan to spend a similar amount as a year earlier – according to the study “Poles Own Wallet: E-commerce for the holidays”. However, both sellers and consumers pay attention to the rising costs this season – more expensive transport, energy and labor. This caused me too the prices of trees and fish increased slightly compared to last year. However, this does not reduce the interest of Poles, for whom Christmas traditions are still very important and cannot imagine Christmas without a decorated Christmas tree and carp on the table.
How much does a Christmas tree cost in 2025?
Everyone who wants their home to smell like Christmas a little earlier can now buy natural Christmas trees that are on sale – both on plantations and on temporary stands and parking lots in front of supermarkets. Their cenes are varied and depend mainly depending on the species and height of the tree and place of purchase. The most expensive are premium trees – tall and spreading.
Current Christmas tree prices:
- Norway spruce or pine – from PLN 40 to PLN 120
- Silver spruce – from PLN 120 to PLN 220

In large cities they prefer premium trees
According to Andrzej Bednarz, who sells Christmas trees at a seasonal stand at one of Wrocław's supermarkets, interest in Christmas trees has already begun.
– Customers most often ask about Caucasian fir, which is more durable and stays fresh longer. As every year, spruce and pine are also very popular. However, in large cities, more people choose premium trees. There are still a few weeks until Christmas, so for now most people buy them in pots because they have a chance to last longer – says Andrzej Bednarz, owner of a seasonal stand with Christmas trees in Wrocław, to Bankier.pl. – Compared to last year, we buy Christmas trees in bulk at a slightly higher price. But we try not to increase prices for customers. These haven't changed much since last year, he adds.
– Last weekend, people came with their entire families to choose a Christmas tree. This year, Caucasian firs and silver spruces are the best sellers, says Lisa Melnyk, who sells trees at one of the markets in Wrocław, to Bankier.pl.
Where to buy a Christmas tree?
It turns out that the cheapest Christmas tree can be purchased directly at the plantation. At some of them you can buy a tree for even PLN 25. However, you have to cut them yourself.
Online stores are also becoming more and more popular sellers offer Christmas trees with home delivery and delivery and placement at the indicated place.
When looking for your dream tree, you can also visit advertising websites where both sellers and growers present their offers.
– When it comes to real Christmas trees, we have recorded an increase in the number of advertisements year on year by 4%. – says Kamil Szabłowski from the Olx platform at Bankier.pl. – With regard the average price for a Christmas tree we see an increase similar to the current inflationi.e. approx 4 percent.
Is it difficult to make money on carp?
Most Poles cannot imagine Christmas without carp, which is usually one of the most important dishes on the Christmas table. You can already buy it in many places, including: in supermarkets, at special seasonal stands at markets or directly on breeding farms.
According to breeders, this year carp prices will remain at last year's level, although taking into account the costs of breeding them, they should cost more.
– Its breeding takes three years, and its prices are almost the same as last year. This means that we don't make much money on it. We rather earn money from other fish, says Rafał Tatarek from the Fish Farm in Dziadków in Lower Silesia to Bankier.pl. – Here, a kilogram of carp costs PLN 16 gross and the size of the fish does not matter. We also noticed that we have more customers than last year.
How much does a carp cost?
A kilogram of carp from breeders costs about PLN 15-22 per kilogram. In stores, supermarkets and markets, prices may be slightly higher due to the additional margin.
Carp prices in stores are as follows:
- live carp – from PLN 25 to PLN 32/kg,
- fresh carp – from PLN 22 to PLN 35/kg,
- carp fillet – from PLN 30 to PLN 60/kg,
- gutted carp – from PLN 35 to PLN 50/kg.
It turns out that carp breeders also promote their offers on advertising platforms. Although, according to Kamil Szabłowski, in this case the number of advertisements has decreased by 18% since last year. Whereas prices increased by only 2
percent.
As sellers argue, by buying carp in advance, you can save a lot. Closer to Christmas Eve, its price will increase.
Regardless of the prices, Poles do not give up Christmas traditions. Christmas trees and carps are more expensive in 2025 than a year ago, but they are still very popular.
