Many have already noticed: with the onset of December, an indoor rose, purchased in the fall, begins to shed its buds, the lower leaves turn yellow, and the new ones become small and pale. It seems that the flower has “given up.” But the problem is not in the plant, but in the fact that the store-bought soil has become depleted, and short daylight hours and dry air from radiators increase stress. Rose lacks magnesium and iron and without support she will not make it through the holidays.
But there is a simple way to help her right now and it is lying in your kitchen after your morning coffee. Coffee grounds are not waste, but a source of microelements and light acid, which rose loves so much. This is exactly what you need in December: support without overfeeding, care without chemicals.
How to use:
- Collect the grounds from 2-3 cups of coffee without sugar or cream.
- Dry it for 1-2 days on a radiator or on a plate.
- Grind with a fork until crumbly.
- Gently mix 1 to 2 teaspoons into the top layer of soil around the bush, without touching the stem.
- Pour warm water over it.
- Repeat only once in December. This is enough for the rose to gain strength until spring.
Do not add fresh grounds: they turn sour, cause mold and attract midges. Only dried.
Do this now and by the New Year your rose will bloom with large and beautiful buds.
