Two residents of the Krasnoyarsk Territory were convicted of smuggling timber worth 479 million rubles

The Kirovsky District Court of Krasnoyarsk issued a guilty verdict against two residents of the region in a criminal case of smuggling of strategically important resources on a large scale.
According to the West Siberian Transport Prosecutor's Office, the crime was committed between 2019 and 2021:
“It was established that the defendants, acting by a group of persons by prior conspiracy, as part of the execution of foreign economic contracts for the purpose of exporting timber, provided false shipping documents to the customs authorities through electronic document management, containing false information about the sources of origin of the timber. Subsequently, they illegally moved more than 60 thousand cubic meters of coniferous timber across the border of the Customs Union within the EAEU. m and cost more than 479 million rubles.”
According to Part 1 of Art. 226.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, the court sentenced one of the defendants to 4 years of imprisonment in a general regime correctional colony with a fine of 300 thousand rubles, and to another – 2.5 years of forced labor with 20% withheld from the salary to the state income. Also, a sum of money corresponding to the value of illegally transported timber was confiscated from both.
