I no longer take low-fat yogurt – experts have revealed the truth about the “healthy” product

Low-fat foods are often perceived as healthier, and yogurt is no exception.

It is presented on store shelves as an ideal option for those watching their figure. However, experts are increasingly noting that regular consumption of low-fat yogurt may be less beneficial than it seems.

When the fat is removed from yogurt, its taste and texture changes – the product becomes watery and less rich. To restore its attractiveness, manufacturers add sugar, syrups, artificial sweeteners and flavors.

As a result, low-fat yogurt turns into a source of fast carbohydrates, which quickly increase blood glucose levels.

What are the dangers of sudden spikes in sugar?

A rapid rise in blood sugar is especially problematic for people with diabetes and prediabetes, but even in a healthy person it can cause increased appetite, fatigue and cravings for sweets 1-2 hours after eating.

Endocrinologists explain: fats slow down the absorption of carbohydrates. Without them, sugar from yogurt enters the blood almost instantly, causing a sharp release of insulin, and then an equally sharp decrease in glycemia. This creates a vicious circle: a person eats a supposedly “light” product, but hunger returns faster than after a full meal, which often leads to overeating.

Many low-fat yogurts contain sweeteners. They do not increase calorie content, but can increase cravings for sweets, disrupt the functioning of intestinal microflora and affect feelings of fullness. Sweeteners deceive sweet taste receptors, but the body does not receive the expected energy, which only increases appetite.

Natural yogurt with normal fat content acts differently and contains:

  • proteins that provide long-lasting satiety
  • healthy fats that stabilize sugar levels
  • probiotics to support gut health

It is this combination that makes regular yogurt a complete and balanced product.

How to choose healthy yogurt

Nutritionists recommend paying attention to the composition. Ideally, it should contain milk and sourdough. Without sugar, syrups, dyes, flavors and flavoring additives.

It is also important to consider the timing of meals: it is better to include yogurt in the diet in the first half of the day, when the body more actively uses up the energy received.

Doctors emphasize that high-quality milk fats help maintain hormonal balance, participate in the absorption of vitamins and help control appetite. But low-fat products are often the result of marketing rather than health concerns.

A conscious choice of natural yogurt with normal fat content will bring much more benefits than products labeled 0%.
