The Christmas lights are lit today in Bucharest with the opening of the Christmas Market in Constitution Square. The premieres promised by the local administration

The festive holiday lighting will be switched on in the capital on Saturday evening. 7 million LED bulbs were placed on the main arteries in the city. The local administration also organizes three Christmas fairs, in Constitution Square, University Square and at the National Opera. Two of these open on Saturday.
According to a press release from the Capital City Hall, the festive lighting in Bucharest will be put into operation on Saturday, at 18:00, writes News.ro.
This year's theme under which the Bucharest City Hall organized the December events is “The capital of winter holidays – Live the magic of Christmas through music”, the organizers starting from the idea that music becomes “the emotional bond of the holidays, the element that unites generations, cultures and communities”.
Bucharest City Hall is organizing three Christmas fairs this year. The central fair is located in the Constitution Square, where shows and concerts will be organized.
A fair dedicated to families and lovers of classical, jazz and folk music is organized at the National Opera, from December 6-28, while the fair in University Square is intended for young audiences, the organizers promising that the space at the University will include “creative activations and modern reinterpretations of traditional carols”.
Thus, the Bucharest City Hall, through Creart, in partnership with the Food Truck Festival, will open the second Christmas market of the Capital – Bucharest Downtown Christmas Market, also on Saturday, in the University Square.
Over 7 million LED bulbs were placed in Bucharest this year, for the winter holidays. The holiday lights will include the main streets and areas of the city, such as Aviatorilor, Kiseleff, Regele Mihai I, Calea Victoriei, Regina Elisabeta, Lascăr Catargiu, , Magheru, Ion I. C, Brătianu boulevards, but also in Unirii Square, Roman Square, Constitution Square, Opera Square and University Square.
For the festive lighting, the Bucharest Municipal Public Lighting Company uses all its own equipment. More than 70 oversized 3D figurines, with heights between 3.5 and 10 meters, are located around the Christmas markets.

According to the organizers, the Bucharest Christmas Fair returns to the Constitution Square starting on Saturday, November 29, with the most spectacular edition so far. In addition to the already traditional houses, the panoramic wheel, craftsmen and plastic artists, this year's edition, the 18th, will bring a series of novelties that transform the event into a complex experience for visitors. The scenography of the Bucharest Christmas Market is made by scenographer Dragoș Buhagiar, assistant scenographer Vladimir Iuganu.
One of the most important novelties of the 2025 edition is the first Christmas Pyramid ever installed in Romania – a construction 10 meters high and 7 meters in diameter, decorated with figurines and traditional symbols of winter, similar to those of the great fairs in Germany, Austria and France, according to the organizers.
Also for the first time, the Palace of the Parliament will be illuminated every evening with dedicated festive projections.
After the success of the DJ set areas of the past years, the 2025 edition introduces the Scena Felinar – a modern space, created especially for the younger generation. Here, the DJs will bring the most loved remixes of the season. .
New attractions for children and families
The area dedicated to the little ones is expanding this year, with a series of attractions making their first appearance at the Bucharest Christmas Market:
- The Venetian carousel with classic design and premium decorative elements;
- Santa's Express, a themed mini roller-coaster;
- Flying Sled, an interactive experience for the little ones;
- Box with globes, a new game concept with visual surprises;
- Interactive elves and new plush games in the Instagrammable area.
