“CPC marine infrastructure facilities in the area of the port of Novorossiysk were attacked by unmanned watercraft. As a result of the attack, the remote mooring unit VPU-2 received serious damage. The unit was disabled,” the report says.
In Kazakhstan, the oil pipeline is considered an object of critical infrastructure and has associated what is happening with risks on a global scale.
“Such actions in relation to purely civilian critical infrastructure facilities are unacceptable. The CPC pipeline system is an international energy project, and any forceful impact on its facilities creates direct risks for global energy security, and also causes significant damage to the economic interests of the consortium participants, including the Republic of Kazakhstan,” the statement said.
The Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan reported that it “urgently activated a plan to redirect export volumes of oil to alternative routes.”
The CPC oil pipeline carries oil from Western Kazakhstan and Russia to marine terminals near Novorossiysk for further export.
Context
Since the beginning of 2024, Ukraine has intensified attacks on oil infrastructure in Russia. Head of Ukrainian State Vladimir Zelensky noted that Ukraine is forced to respond by launching strikes in response to Russian air attacks on Ukrainian energy facilities.
After the night attack on November 14, oil exports had already stopped in Novorossiysk.
