Shell will not return to Russia. Rospatent has revoked the trademark of a British oil and gas company. The famous logo, the red and yellow shell, can now be used by anyone in Russia.
After the start of the SVO, Shell announced that it was leaving the Russian market, but wanted to keep the trademark. In March 2022, the company filed an application to register the logo. In November 2023, I received a notification that I needed to pay a fee. But the money did not arrive.
Having received nothing, Rospatent decided that Shell Brands International AG no longer needed the trademark. The application was declared withdrawn. Now manufacturers of motor oils, lubricants, charging stations and other automotive products can continue to use the logo completely free of charge.
UPD. Rospatent stated that the application was rejected due to non-payment of the state fee for the examination of the trademark. And any company that tries to produce products under the Shell trademark will violate exclusive rights and risk being sued. Shell Brands International AG, which owns the rights to the entire line of Shell trademarks, has a portfolio of more than 40 active trademarks. Using any of them is a gross violation of the law.
