Avito explained how it protects users’ personal data

November 28 10:00

Avito launched the “Home for Data” communication campaign to explain to users in simple language the principles of working with personal information. The project aims to increase transparency and strengthen trust in the platform.

The campaign uses the metaphor of a home: personal data is presented as the user's personal space, where only he is the master. The symbol of the project is the cat Bazik (from the word “database”), which helps make complex legal terms more understandable.

At the same time, Avito presented an updated Privacy Policy. The document has been extensively revised to make it easier to read and understand.

“We approached the update of the Privacy Policy with a focus on the user. Yes, this is a legally binding document, but we sought to make it not just a formality, but a convenient tool. We have simplified the wording while maintaining legal accuracy, added clarifications to complex terms and improved the structure. Now all information is presented in a convenient question-and-answer format,” comments Marina Yufa, head of Avito’s data protection legal support practice.

As Marina Yufa notes, a special appendix has been added to the contents of the document, which clearly shows what data is being processed and for what purpose, as well as which of Avito’s partners and providers are involved in this process.

“Our research shows that only 18% of Russians always and 23% often read user documents such as the privacy policy. At the same time, 43% do this rarely. That's why we decided to launch a campaign aimed at emphasizing that the user is in charge of managing their information. We want to explain in simple words how Avito works with personal data in order to create a comfortable and safe digital environment in which people will be confident in the safety of their personal data,” notes Marina Yufa.

The campaign is based on the principle that the user retains full control over his data, and the platform ensures its reliable protection. Avito treats personal information as someone else's property, strictly observing the established rules, and explains in detail what data it collects and for what purpose. This approach reflects the company's new positioning, based on openness and trust.

Avito users can already get acquainted with the landing page and information materials, a video and the updated interface of the Privacy Policy section.
