Arsenal defeated Bayern Munich 3-1, in a match of the #5 stage of the Champions League.
Timber, Madueke and Martinelli scored for the “gunners”, while the kid Karl scored for the Bavarians.
Arsenal conceded the first goal of this season's Champions League, but subdued Bayern
Arsenal started the better in London and kept Kompany's side in check for 30 minutes. The Gunners missed an important opportunity through Trossard in the 9th minute. Just 13 minutes later, the Gunners served up the “house specialty”: Bukayo Saka executed a perfect corner and Timber resumed with a header, marking the milestone of 10 goals scored from corners this season.
Arteta and the “gunners” kept Kompany's machine in check until the 30th minute. After half an hour of play, the Bavarians had not registered a shot on goal, but that changed when the young Lewis-Skelly scored wide.
Arteta's young man on the left side of the defense released Gnabry from the mark and the German was found perfectly behind the line of defenders and Karl completed a simple formality in front of the goal.
This was the story of Arsenal's first goal conceded in this competitive Champions League season. Until the break, the “gunners” also lost Leandro Trossard, who came out injured in the 38th minute.
After the break, Arsenal returned to the offensive, and Saka missed a good opportunity in the 48th minute. Karl responded 10 minutes later, but the Gunners' reply came immediately from a corner: Merino hit the ball well with his head, but the ball went past Neuer's goal.
The Gunners' offensive insistence and aggressive pressing paid off: Madueke scored in the 69th minute and put Arsenal back in front at the end of a combination on the left flank.
The Bavarians went on the attack, trying to get an equaliser, but it cost them dearly. Martinelli escaped on the counterattack, Neuer inexplicably came out, the Brazilian dribbled easily and scored the goal that decided the final result. 15 points from 15 and Arsenal remained the only team with consecutive wins in the Champions League following Chivu's defeat in Madrid.
