Five American fighter jets “dared to approach” the coasts of Venezuela, said Defense Minister in Caracas, in the context of increasing tensions after Washington sent war ships near the Venezuelan coast, AFP reports.

“North American imperialism dared to approach the Venezuelan coasts,” Vladimir Padrino said in a speech on state television. The anti -aircraft defense has detected five American aircraft, said the minister, without giving any other details.

The United States has been carrying out an anti-drug operation, several war vessels in the Caribbean and 10 F-35 aircraft in Porto Rico, a territory belonging to the US.

Washington accuses the president of Venezuela Nicolas Maduro and his government of directing a vast drug trafficking organization to the United States and announced that he has destroyed several “narcoterorists.”

The authorities in Caracas vehemently denounced these accusations and, in response to the dislocation of American troops they see as a military threat, launched military maneuvers and mobilized reservists.

“Denunciation in front of the world this situation which is not only a challenge, but also a threat to our national security,” added Minister Padrino.

The President of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduro, is prepared to declare an emergency due to the threat of a “aggression” from the US, said the vice -president of the country, Delcy Rodriguez, on Monday, in the context of the series of American army on some Venezuelan boats suspected of drug trafficking.

Rodriguez told foreign diplomats that Maduro has signed a decree that gives him “special powers” as head of state to act in defense and security if the United States “dare to attack our homeland.”

However, a government source told AFP that Maduro has not yet signed the document.

“The vice -president presented the document to show that everything is ready and that the president can decree at any time,” explained the source, speaking under the condition of anonymity.
