Parliamentarians from the PACE group with the support of AUR will submit a no-confidence motion against the Bolojan government next week. Senator Ninel Peia told HotNews that he wanted to make this announcement on Wednesday in the plenary session of the Parliament, but his microphone was cut off before he could make the announcement.
In the speech given in the plenary session of the Parliament, on the occasion of the National Defense Strategy debate, Ninel Peia criticized the content of the document and the military acquisitions that Romania is preparing through the SAFE program. His speech was suddenly interrupted by the president of the Chamber of Deputies, Sorin Grindeanu, who drew his attention to the fact that he had exceeded the regular time.
Ninel Peia, elected on the lists of Diana Șoșoacă's party and who is now a member of the “PACE – First Romania” group, later told HotNews that after the microphone was cut, he announced a censure motion against the government. The announcement was not heard in the plenary as a result of the microphone being cut.
AUR representatives confirmed to HotNews that they support the approach of the PACE group. “Yes, we will file it together,” they told HotNews.
“Romania is not for sale – A government without USR”, will be the title of the censure motion, stated Ninel Peia. The text is to be published next week.
The opposition needs 233 votes to topple the Bolojan Government
To cause the fall of the Bolojan Government, the censure motion must be voted by half plus one of the parliamentarians, i.e. 233 votes out of 465.
Parliamentary arithmetic shows that the opposition does not have enough votes. In total, the four parties that form a majority of 294 parliamentarians, to which are added 17 deputies from the group of national minorities, a group that supports the Government in Parliament.
