In Krasnoyarsk, the Museum of the History of Shipping on the Yenisei will host the “Geographical Dictation”

26 November 14:25
The educational event of the Russian Geographical Society “Geographical Dictation” in Krasnoyarsk will be held for the first time at the site of the Museum of the History of Shipping on the Yenisei. The promotion will take place on November 30 at 12:00 (participant gathering at 11:00).
The People's Museum is located in the building of the Yenisei River Shipping Company, which is part of Norilsk Nickel. The museum premises recreate the space of a cargo pusher tug with a captain's cabin, wheelhouse, helm, bell and other authentic attributes of motor ships.
It is symbolic that one of the topics of the dictation is dedicated to the 500th anniversary of the development of the Northern Sea Route, and the Yenisei River Shipping Company played an important role in its formation. The Yenisei is the “southern gate” of the Northern Sea Route, and the shipping company has been supplying the Arctic territories and stations located at the mouth of the Yenisei and along the coast for more than 90 years.
Olga Korneeva, Honored Worker of Culture of the Russian Federation, Honorary Citizen of Taimyr, author of expositions at the Taimyr Museum of Local Lore and member of the Russian Geographical Society, will read the dictation assignments on this site. Olga Korneeva will tell participants about her many years of work in Taimyr, unique exhibits and the history of the local history museum of the peninsula.
You can register for the site using the link (the number of places is limited).
For several years now, the Norilsk Nickel company has been accepting people at its sites to test their knowledge of geography. Last year, the participants of the action wrote a dictation underground for the first time – in the Anhydrit mine of the Kayerkansky mine at a depth of 68 meters. The site was recognized as one of the most unusual places in the world for writing a “Geographical Dictation”. The dictation was also written right in the air – this was done by passengers on the Norilsk – Moscow flight.
This year, Norilsk residents will write a dictation in the “Tower” – a renovated cultural heritage site, where the company spent two years reconstructing it. The Tower space is a striking and symbolic example of the renovation of Norilsk, which is located in the main landmark of the city – one of the twin buildings erected in 1951 according to the design of St. Petersburg architects Vsevolod Nepokoychitsky and Lydia Minenko.
