Spices and herbs not only add flavor and aroma to your dishes, but also have health benefits. Scientists have found that black cumin seeds have properties that are beneficial in combating obesity. The seed extract significantly reduced lipid accumulation in a cell model without detecting toxicity.
A study published in Food Science & Nutrition (16+) showed its ability to suppress key genes responsible for fat production.
The effect was tested in a clinical study involving a group of volunteers. They consumed 5 grams of black cumin powder daily for 8 weeks. The results showed a significant improvement in the blood lipid profile.
According to the results of the experiment, participants recorded a decrease in the levels of triglycerides, low-density lipoproteins and total cholesterol. At the same time, an increase in high-density lipoprotein levels was observed. No significant changes were found in the control group that did not receive the supplement.
The findings suggest the potential of black cumin as a weight management agent due to its combined antiadipogenic and lipid-lowering effects.
