At the beginning of 2026, due to an increase in purchase prices in Russia, computer equipment will become more expensive by 5-10%. Izvestia writes about this with reference to industry sources. Experts agree that the increase in purchase prices is a consequence of the rapid increase in the cost of RAM for PCs on the world market.
“There is a boom in demand for services related to artificial intelligence in the world. To operate they require equipment, for example, servers equipped with modern memory. Manufacturers are increasing shipments of such chips, and the production of modules of previous generations, which are used in PCs and laptops and which are more expensive, is declining,” Eldar Murtazin, a leading analyst at Mobile Research Group, told reporters.
According to calculations by The Commercial Times, from the beginning of 2025 to the third quarter, prices for chips increased by more than 170% – this is an unprecedented jump. For example, in September, Samsung raised prices for a number of memory chips by 60%. According to PC Part Picker, the price for a set of DDR5 memory modules, which was about $125 in September, exceeded $250 by the beginning of November.
This dynamic inevitably leads to an increase in the cost of finished electronics, vendors admit. In particular, last week its president Lu Weibing warned about the upcoming rise in prices for Xiaomi gadgets.
The first batches of equipment at new purchase prices are already being sent to Russia. They will arrive in the country after the New Year holidays.
