The FSRU gas port in Gdańsk is scheduled to start operating in 2028. It will be difficult to meet the deadline because the Turkish contractor ordered defective steel piles from Algeria. Experts say that this will result in a delay in the investment – writes in the Monday edition of “Puls Biznesu”.

During the implementation of some works related to the construction of the FSRU gas terminal in Gdańsk, which is to ensure the supply of over 6 billion cubic meters to Poland. liquefied natural gas, problems occurred in connection with the order by the contractor consortium of steel anchor piles, which will be embedded in the bottom of the Bay of Gdańsk – writes “Puls Biznesu”. The Turkish-Polish consortium of GAP Insaat Yatrim ve Dis Ticaret, Unitek Inşaat Sanayi ve Ticaret and Fabe Polska will be responsible for them.

“A mooring platform, i.e. a quay for an FSRU ship, will be built on them (steel piles – PAP). The consortium ordered them from Algeria, but a large part of the delivered elements turned out to be defective,” we read in the Monday edition of the newspaper.

As Iwona Dominiak, spokeswoman for Gaz-System (the investor of the FSRU gas terminal), told “Puls Biznesu” “in this particular case, quality control worked properly – the shortcomings of the anchor piles were identified even before they were submitted for acceptance. “This will in no way affect the completion date and cost of Gaz-System's investment, much less the quality of the infrastructure being built,” she added.

– Our union is receiving signals about possible delays in the implementation of the FSRU project. If confirmed, the deadline for completing the marine part of the terminal by the end of 2027 will become unrealistic. Contrary to the official narrative about the need to re-Polonize the economy, Gaz-System decided to entrust the investment to a random consortium from Turkey – Damian Kaźmierczak, vice-president of the Polish Association of Construction Employers, told “PB”.

As the newspaper points out, “experts and managers from the industry emphasize that they warned against choosing the Turkish-Polish consortium to implement an investment that is important from the point of view of the country's energy security.”

“We warned that selecting companies from outside the European Union to carry out contracts involves the risk of delays, and ordering goods from third countries does not guarantee their quality. – says Henryk Orczykowski, president of Stalprofil. (PAP)
