The Armament Agency announced that license agreements were signed on Monday regarding the transfer of maintenance, repair and overhaul technologies for K2 and K2PL tanks. The agreements were concluded in connection with the implementation of the executive agreement for the purchase of K2PL tanks for the Polish Armed Forces.

The license for the transfer of MRO (maintenance, repair and overhaul) technology for the K2GF and K2PL tanks was concluded by the State Treasury – Armament Agency and the South Korean company Hyundai Rotem Company. At the same time, a sublicense agreement was signed between the Armament Agency and Zakłady Mechaniczne “Bumar-Łabędy” SA

“The subject of the license agreement concluded between the State Treasury – Armament Agency and Hyundai Rotem Company is the transfer of technology in the field of MRO activities (maintenance, repairs and overhauls) for K2GF and K2PL tanks. The subject of the sublicense agreement concluded between the State Treasury – Armament Agency and Zakłady Mechaniczne “Bumar-Łabędy” SA is the transfer of equipment purchased from Hyundai Rotem Company in the above contract. license to carry out activities in the field of maintenance, repairs and inspections of K2GF and K2PL tanks,” we read in the announcement published on the website of the Armament Agency – milio-polskie.pl.

The Armament Agency emphasized that the signing of license agreements is a natural continuation of the implementation of the second executive agreement for the purchase of K2PL tanks signed on August 1 this year. “This will enable the acquisition of technology for the State Treasury and its further sublicensing to selected entities of the Polish defense industry. In the future, at further stages of acquiring K2 tanks for the Polish Armed Forces, it is planned to expand the scope of the license agreement, including MRO capabilities for accompanying vehicles,” it added.

These activities – as noted – will increase not only the capabilities of the Polish defense industry, but also the Polish Armed Forces in terms of restoring operational capabilities. “The purpose of this agreement is also to create cross-border coalitions to increase MRO (maintenance, repair and overhaul) capabilities,” the announcement reads.

The Armament Agency also reminded that on August 1 this year. Executive contract No. 2 was concluded at Zakłady Mechaniczne “Bumar-Łabędy”, worth approximately USD 6.5 billion, related to the acquisition of further K2 tanks, including the first tanks in the K2PL configuration. Its subject is the delivery of 180 K2 tanks in the years 2026-2030, of which 116, in the current K2GF configuration, will be delivered in the years 2026-2027, and 64, in the K2PL configuration, in the years 2028-2030, as well as a number of specialized vehicles (technical security vehicles, engineering vehicles and accompanying bridges), training, logistics and ammunition supply packages.

“Tanks in the K2PL configuration, compared to the original K2GF version, will be equipped with a number of additional subsystems, including a remotely controlled weapons module, Active Vehicle Protection System, anti-drone system, additional armor and other improvements. In addition, the K2PL tanks will be modified based on conclusions from the current operation of K2GF tanks in the Polish Armed Forces,” the press release concluded. (PAP)
