In June, Texas Governor Greg Abbott introduced a law requiring the Ten Commandments to be displayed prominently in every classroom. Posters should be of an appropriate size and the commandments should be written in large font so that everyone present in the class can read them.

Supporters of these regulations maintain that the Ten Commandments are the foundation of American history and culture, while their opponents believe that the order violates the principle of separation of church and state.

Dispute over the 10 commandments. The legal battle continues

In September, a group of 15 families went to court on this matter. The judge ruled that “the applicants do not want their children to be forced to follow, worship or accept the religious doctrine embodied in the Ten Commandments.” He noted that the complainants include atheists, agnostics, Christians, Jews, Baha'i and Hindus.

Earlier, another federal judge temporarily blocked regulations on displaying the Ten Commandments in 11 school districts. In total, currently approximately 20 percent. students of Texas public schools attend institutions subject to the order to remove the commandments.

The legal battle continues over the regulations introduced by the governor of Texas and similar solutions in other states, the Washington Post wrote on Wednesday. A study conducted last year by the Pew Research Center shows that 67 percent Texas residents identify as Christians.
