Context

Since returning to power in August 2021, the Taliban government has imposed numerous restrictions, especially on women, in line with their interpretation of Islamic sharia, the BBC reports. In 2022, the Taliban issued a decree obliging women to wear the burqa in public places, wrote Al Jazeera.

Taliban officials then called the decree an “advice.” Since the Taliban returned to power banned women from working in most workplaces and study at universities, and for girls – attend high school. UN more than once called for The Taliban will end what the organization describes as “gender apartheid.”
