In the Krasnoyarsk Territory, gold miners were caught polluting the Mamon River in the Motyginsky District and were forced to pay 2.9 million rubles in damages.
The prosecutor's office said that in 2024, work on the extraction of placer gold in the north of the region was carried out by Artel Prospectors Angara – North LLC. But wastewater, in violation of the law, was discharged directly into the Mamon River.
“The investigation by the prosecutor's office showed shocking results. Water samples recorded an excess of permissible concentrations of harmful substances up to 290 times. The river, which should have remained a natural asset, was turning into a sewer. The damage caused to the water body is estimated at 2.9 million rubles,” the press service said.
Representatives of the department sent a request demanding compensation for the damage caused and stopping the destructive practice once and for all.
“The subsoil user, realizing the consequences, fully compensated for the damage. But the main thing is that practical work was carried out to strengthen the settling basin, which prevented re-pollution of the river,” the press service noted.
