Market security guard beat Krasnoyarsk resident to death and remained undetected for 25 years

In Krasnoyarsk, a criminal investigation has been completed on charges of a 54-year-old local resident of intentionally causing grievous bodily harm, resulting in the death of a person through negligence.

The crime was committed in May 2001. On the side of the road in the Sverdlovsk district of the city, a 25-year-old man was found unconscious with multiple injuries. He was hospitalized, but despite medical assistance, he died.

Due to the commission of the crime in conditions of non-obviousness, the complex of operational actions carried out at that time failed to identify the culprit and the preliminary investigation was suspended. In 2026, law enforcement re-analyzed the materials of the criminal case. Thanks to an in-depth study of the deceased’s social circle and the reconstruction of his route of movement in the days preceding hospitalization, it was possible to identify eyewitnesses to the crime.

“Witnesses pointed to the suspect, a 54-year-old Krasnoyarsk resident, who was immediately detained at his place of residence and taken to the investigator. A well-chosen interrogation tactic made it possible to obtain a confession from him. It was established that in May 2001, a 25-year-old victim, while intoxicated on the territory of a market in the Sverdlovsk district of Krasnoyarsk, violated public order, and therefore he had a conflict with the accused, who worked as a market security guard. The defendant, who had previously been a professional boxer, struck his opponent multiple blows to the head with his fists, causing him to lose consciousness. After this, the attacker took the victim by car from the market area and left him on the side of the road in the Sverdlovsk district of Krasnoyarsk. Due to the lack of timely medical care, the victim’s condition worsened, which subsequently led to his death,” the Investigative Committee said.

During the verification of evidence on the spot, the attacker demonstrated in detail the circumstances of the incident.

Currently, the investigation has collected a sufficient evidence base confirming the man’s involvement in the incriminated act. Criminal case part 4 art. 111 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation was sent to the prosecutor's office for approval of the indictment and subsequent transfer to the court for consideration on the merits.
