After conversations with various sources, including in the administration of US President Donald Trump, the author of the material, Nahal Tusi, wrote that Maduro and his closest aides “should read about Turkey.”
Among other options where the Venezuelan president could end up, Politico names the aggressor country Russia, Azerbaijan and Cuba.
According to the publication, Washington has not yet decided what to do with Maduro if he succeeds in overthrowing him.
In addition to expulsion, the option of arresting Maduro and putting him on trial in the United States is also being discussed.
The author of the publication notes that the Trump team is not distinguished by “long-term thinking” and therefore calls it remarkable that these people are “generally thinking about post-Maduro scenarios.” Thusi calls the developments a sign that Trump is not going to abandon his campaign in the region, for which significant US military resources have been deployed.
Politico writes that Trump has approved strikes near Venezuela on ships allegedly transporting drugs, but is wary of sending US troops to Venezuela.
The publication also does not rule out that, as part of the fight against the Maduro regime, one of the Venezuelan President’s closest aides will be “suddenly killed.” Or that one of the Venezuelan military leaders will speak out against Maduro.
