In the coming years, the telecommunications industry in Russia expects a major transformation, says the head of MTS, Inessa Galaktionova.
To move to a new level of development of digital platforms for citizens, business and the state, a foundation for a breakthrough is needed – the introduction of artificial intelligence not only into the subscriber experience, but also into the infrastructure of the network available to telecom operators.
MTS CEO Inessa Galaktionova, in an interview with Kommersant, outlined the key role of artificial intelligence in the development of the telecom industry of the future. According to her, symbiosis with AI will give the user new services: personal AI assistants and assistants that turn on during a call and can, for example, translate the speaker’s speech from one language to another in real time, or protect against fraud.
“The future role of AI in telecom is much greater,” notes Inessa Galaktionova. — During operation, AI embedded in the operator’s network is capable of monitoring it in real time, identifying anomalies and independently correcting them. This will allow you to significantly reduce the time it takes to resolve user problems and super-quickly manage your network. Imagine that in one of the neighborhoods in a city with a population of over a million, the load on the network suddenly increases. AI agents on the operator’s infrastructure understand that there is an exam going on there, and students use videoconferencing services, and immediately expand the channel in this area.”
The head of MTS “envisions” a future where the development of robotics, autonomous transport, advanced smart city technologies, new solutions in the field of safe logistics, autonomous factories and farms, the existence of which is impossible without telecom infrastructure and technology, is at the forefront.
“Our networks have already become a circulatory system through which terabytes of data are pumped every second, necessary to make the life of every resident of the country more digital and convenient. But this is only the beginning of the path that the industry will have to go through in the coming years to move to the “Telecom 2.0” level. The path on which our main competitor is the future,” summarizes Galaktionova.
Demand for a new generation communications infrastructure also comes from the state. The fruits of the operators’ work are already becoming the basis of the country’s technological sovereignty: domestic base stations, including those of the Irtea company, are already operating on the networks.
Let us remind you that the Krasnoyarsk Territory became one of the first in Russia where, at the beginning of the year, MTS put into operation on its existing network domestic base stations of the LTE standard, produced by the Irtea company (50% of the shares of this telecom vendor belong to MTS PJSC). Domestic equipment of the LTE standard has been in operation for a year in real conditions and in various climatic zones – in the settlements of Boguchansky, Emelyanovsky, Taseevsky, Divnogorsky and Nazarovsky districts. In total, imported base stations installed in the region transmitted more than 8 TB of mobile data over the year.
