The United States and Qatar have signed an agreement for Doha to build a unit to host F-15 fighter jets and pilots on an Idaho air basis, the US Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth, according to AFP.
The announcement came shortly after President Trump signed a decree promising to defend this Gulf state against the attacks, following the Israeli air blows that targeted the Hamas leader in Doha.
“We sign an agreement on the construction of an air base emitted on the Mountain Home air basis,” Hegseth told Pentagon, along with Qatarez Defense Minister Bin Abdulrahman Al Thani.
The base will host Qatar's F-15 aircraft
This base “will host a contingent of F-15 qatzareza and pilots to strengthen our common training,” he stressed.
Mountain Home air base is currently hosting a schedule of hunting aircraft in Singapore, according to its web site.
Hegseth also thanked Qatar for the “considerable role” he played as a mediator in negotiations that led to an agreement between Israel and Hamas, as well as for the help given in the release of an American citizen from Afghanistan.
The Minister Qatarez welcomed the “solid and durable partnership” and “close defense relationships” between the two countries.
The air base of Udeid in Qatar is the largest military installation in the American East. The close relationships between Trump and Qatar leaders have aroused questions, especially because of the gift offered to the US president, a Boeing 747 intended to be used as a presidential plane.
The angry reaction of a Trump's alloy
Although this project to install Qatar in Idaho seems to have been in preparation since the mandate of Democrat Joe Biden, the agreement has aroused concerns, especially from Laura Loomer, a figure of the extreme American right, generally allied with Trump.
“I would never have thought that Republicans will give Muslims in Qatar, who finance terrorism, a military base on American territory so that they can assassinate Americans,” she wrote on X.
“The Qatar will not have its own base in the United States, nor nothing like a base. We control the existing base, as we do with all our partners,” Hegseth said on the same network.
