Adele will give up music for a short period to devote herself to acting, the famous singer is going to make her debut in the next film of the former fashion designer Tom Ford, writes BBC News on Wednesday.
The actress will appear in the film “Cry to Heaven” alongside big names such as Colin Firth, Nicholas Hoult, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Paul Bettany and Owen Cooper, the rising star of the series “Adolescence”.
The film will be adapted from Anne Rice's 1982 novel, which takes place in the 18th century in the world of “castrats” (so-called “castrati”) – male singers who were castrated before puberty in order to preserve their high voices (soprano or alto).
Tom Ford will direct and produce the film, also writing the script, but details of the roles played by Adele and the rest of the cast have not yet been revealed.
The book follows the story of two “castrati” who become successful opera singers in Venice and whose lives intertwine.
The cast will also include Ciarán Hinds, George MacKay, Mark Strong, Hunter Schafer and Thandiwe Newton, according to US media. Deadline magazine was the first to publish the information about this film, and a spokesperson for Tom Ford confirmed his intentions to the BBC.
Adele, one of the UK music industry's hottest stars, released her last album four years ago and has largely stayed out of the limelight since she quit living in Las Vegas a year ago.
She stated that she plans to take “a big break” after last year's series of live concerts and wants to “do other creative things for a while”.
Meanwhile, Tom Ford, who has been one of the biggest names in fashion, has made two critically acclaimed films – A Single Man, starring Firth and Hoult, in 2009, and Nocturnal Animals, which earned him two Bafta nominations, in 2016.
He sold his eponymous fashion house to Estee Lauder for $2.8bn (£2.4bn) in 2022, and has since said he will “say goodbye to fashion” and “spend the next 20 years of my life making films”.
“I really enjoyed making the two films I did. It was the most fun I've had in my entire life,” he told British GQ magazine.
