The president of USR, Dominic Fritz, defended Oana Gheorghiu, on Tuesday, on Digi24, and said that the complaint made by the Superior Council of Magistracy against the deputy prime minister “is an unnecessary escalation of this conflict, maybe also a muscle swelling”.
Dominic Fritz was asked if he considers Oana Gheorghiu to be “a problem for the Government”.
“Oana Gheorghiu, from my point of view, is an asset for the Government of Romania, a woman who knows very well the sufferings of the Romanians, but also the incredible, mobilizing force of the Romanians. She is, I think, exactly in the right place,” answered the USR leader.
Fritz also stated that Deputy Prime Minister Oana Gheorghiu, co-founder of the Donate Viață Association, “proved that she only has the good of the community in mind, only the good of Romania”.
“I prefer politicians who speak from the heart, who do not speak according to the scores made by consultants. I am sure that Oana Gheorghiu spoke from a place of disappointment, anger, but also hope, which many, many Romanians can understand”, added the USR president.
The complaint filed by the CSM, “an unnecessary escalation”
The leader of the USR believes that the CSM's decision to report Oana Gheorghiu to the Prosecutor's Office was “an unnecessary escalation of this conflict, perhaps also a swelling of the muscles”.
“I think it was an unfortunate action, which does not help. It is important not to let Oana Gheorghiu be intimidated, I am sure that this is not the first conflict she is in. It is still important that we all know that a super-majority of Romanians is behind this reform of special pensions”, concluded Dominic Fritz.
The Vice-President of the CSM, Claudiu Sandu, announced on Tuesday evening that the criminal complaint against the Deputy Prime Minister Oana Gheorghiu has been drawn up and sent to the General Prosecutor's Office, claiming that the action represents “a democratic exercise”.
