Germany's defense Minister Boris Pistorius urged Calm after Drone alerts at Munich airport, and asked for several prerogatives for the regional police and critical infrastructures to fight this type of incident, AFP reports.

“Of course, I understand insecurity”, but so far, the observed drones “have not been a concrete threat,” said the minister in an interview on Sunday for the Economic newspaper Handelsblatt.

“We have the means to react, even if we do not yet have all the capabilities we want,” he added.

Air traffic was resumed on Saturday at Munich airport, which also reported some minor “repercussions” on the flight schedule on Sunday.

The airport had suspended its traffic on Friday for the second consecutive night following a new drone alert.

The German army came to the aid of the police to detect unmanned devices observed around the airport, but whose origin could not be established.

Despite his intervention in Munich, “Bundeswehr cannot be present everywhere in Germany where drones appear to break them,” Pistorius warned.

According to him, it is “much more decisive” to be given several competences to the regional police and critical infrastructures such as power plants and airports to “act (against drones), up to a certain altitude”.

Pistorius also declared his support for the revision of the air security legislation, a review that will start on Wednesday under the impulse of Interior Minister Alexander Dobindt.

The goal would be to allow the German army to break down drones. Currently, only the police have this right, and only in case of serious threat.
