“The risk of escalation hangs in the air.” The Hungarian minister is threatening war again


On the anniversary of the end of World War I, Minister Szijjarto visited Slovenia's Nova Gorica – the site of battles fought with the participation of Hungarian soldiers. The politician laid a wreath at the place dedicated to their memory, emphasizing that Budapest “will never accept the return of war to the heart of Europe,” the MTI agency reported.

— Their sacrifice obliges Hungary to reject pressure and provocations and maintain a pro-peace position, said the head of Hungarian diplomacy. Szijjarto assessed that in the face of the war lasting in Hungary's neighborhood for three and a half years and Europe gripped by “war psychosis”, the risk of escalation and a third world war hangs in the air every day.

The minister emphasized that “there is no solution on the battlefield, and only diplomacy and negotiations can resolve conflicts.” Representatives of the Hungarian government have repeatedly accused Brussels in recent months of an alleged plan to involve the EU in the war in Ukraine. Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban accused, among others, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky of using moral blackmail to force other countries to support his war efforts.
