In Krasnoyarsk today, November 10, on Kotelnikov Square near the main right-bank academic building of Reshetnev University, a ceremonial meeting was held to mark the opening of a memorial complex with a bronze sculpture of the legendary academician – creator of the world's first satellite systems, Mikhail Fedorovich Reshetnev. The university has been named after the outstanding designer since 1996.

The Governor of the Krasnoyarsk Territory Mikhail Kotyukov, university leaders, representatives of the university’s partner enterprises, and representatives of the region’s scientific and professional communities took part in the ceremony. Mikhail Fedorovich’s daughter, Tamara Belova, came to Krasnoyarsk for the opening of her father’s memorial. Among the participants in the event was the author of the complex, the young Krasnoyarsk sculptor Ilya Tsarinny, for whom the project was, in fact, his debut.

The memorial owes its appearance to one of the university students, who expressed the idea of creating a monument to Reshetnev a couple of years ago at the “Reshetnev Readings” conference. The idea was supported by the Academic Council of the university and, what is especially important, the initiative soon found a response and support from the governor of the Krasnoyarsk Territory. The rector of Reshetnev University, Edkham Akbulatov, recalled this in his speech when opening the meeting.

“Hero of socialist labor, laureate of the Lenin and state prizes, academician, outstanding organizer of production, a man ahead of his time! Our duty is to preserve the memory of people like Mikhail Fedorovich Reshetnev. The memory of those people who radically changed the economic landscape of our region based on the achievement of scientific and technological progress is the right path to the development of high-tech industries in our country,” Akbulatov emphasized.

The importance of the technological and scientific heritage of M. F. Reshetnev for the region and for the whole country was noted in his speech by the head of the region, Mikhail Kotyukov.

“The results of his labors today reliably protect our Motherland. Our country elevates the issue of space development to the rank of a national priority. As part of a new national project on the banks of the Yenisei, we are creating a national satellite manufacturing center named after. M. F. Reshetnyova. I would like to thank everyone who put their soul, energy, and strength into the creation of this monument. It is symbolic that Mikhail Fedorovich will meet students every day, reminding them that everyone sets their own limits, and nothing is impossible if you love the business you have chosen!”

Tamara Belova spoke about her father at the rally, and the director of the Institute of Space Technologies of the Federal Research Center KSC SB RAS, deputy chairman of the SB RAS, academician, associate of Reshetnev Nikolai Testoyedov, general director of JSC “RESHETNYOV” Mikhail Valov, associate of Reshetnev, one of the former deputy general designers Vladimir Khalimanovich, former head of the department of aircraft, where Reshetnev began working at the Plant-VTUZ, Viktor Filatov. And everyone had their own words about a person whom they knew personally, but who will now become closer to the new generation of Reshetnevites.

The ceremony ended with the laying of flowers at the foot of the monument to the sounds of Mikhail Reshetnev’s favorite song, “Nadezhda.”
