The Mayor of New York appeals to the President of the United States. “Listen to me, President Trump.”
— We believe in standing up for those we love – whether you are an immigrant, a member of the trans community, a Black woman, a single mother or anyone else who has their backs against the wall. Your fight is also our fight, he said.
He announced a “bold vision” of New York without excuses and compromises. In his program, the new mayor announced a rent freeze, free bus transport and universal child care.
He emphasized that New York is a city built and powered by immigrants, and now it will also be run by immigrants. After these words, he referred directly to the US president.
— Listen to me, President Trump, when I say: To get at any one of us, you'll have to take on all of us – he said from the podium.
“We won because New Yorkers dared to believe that the impossible could become possible,” Mamdani said.
The 34-year-old politician presented his plan as a way to defeat the forces of “oligarchy and authoritarianism” that, in his opinion, threaten democracy throughout the country.
— If anyone can show a nation betrayed by Donald Trump how to defeat him, it is the city that gave birth to him. – he emphasized, addressing directly to the former president.
— Donald Trump, I know you're watching this. I have four words for you: turn up the volume [ang. turn up the volume] — he said.
Donald Trump, commenting on Mamdani's victory, wrote eloquently on the Truth Social platform: “…SO IT HAS STARTED!”
