Serious accident in the Făgăraş Mountains. Three men slid hundreds of meters down a steep slope

Three men from Ploieşti slipped, on Saturday, hundreds of meters on a steep slope in the Vârfului Netedu area, in the Făgăraș Mountains. One survived, and two of them, aged 35 and 50, respectively, died after falling into the void, their bodies still on the mountain because they could not be recovered by mountain rescuers, the director of Salvamont Sibiu, Dan Popescu, told Agerpres.
“All three were men from Ploieşti, the two (deceased no) are 35 and 50 years old respectively,” stated Dan Popescu.
According to him, the only one of the three who survived, also a man from Ploiesti, was recovered by the SMURD helicopter, by trolling a mountain rescuer. “His condition was not serious, after being picked up by the helicopter, he left for his car located in Caldarea Bâlea”, stated the head of Salvamont Sibiu.
The mountain rescuers will try to recover the bodies of the two tourists who died in the Făgăraş Mountains on Sunday.
“Due to the extremely difficult terrain and weather conditions, they could not be recovered today by trawling. The recovery operation will be resumed tomorrow, both by land and air, depending on the weather. From the first information, the people involved were not properly equipped for the winter conditions in the area. We will return with details regarding tomorrow's action”, announced Dan Popescu.
