Bangalore has been struggling with extreme weather conditions for several weeks. Reuters emphasized that the city experienced high temperatures and high air humidity. On Wednesday there was a sudden change in the weather.
Heavy rainfall hit the capital of Karnataka, accompanied by gusty winds and hail. Strong gusts toppled trees and broke branches. The downpour caused serious traffic disruptions and flooding in various parts of the city.
Preliminary findings show that all the people who died were looking for shelter from strong winds. They crouched next to the hospital wall, which at one point collapsed on them. Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India, expressed his condolences to the victims' relatives in a special entry posted online.
