Putin's promise to the only EU leader who went to Moscow for the Victory Day festivities

President Vladimir Putin told Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, at a meeting they had in the Kremlin on Saturday, that Russia will do everything possible to meet Slovakia's energy demand, reports Reuters, taken by Agerpres.
Slovakia is among the few countries in Europe that still buy oil and gas from Russia. Slovakia receives Russian oil through the Soviet-built Drujba pipelines, while natural gas from Russia arrives there through the TurkStream pipeline.
Fico arrived in Moscow for the festivities marking the victory of the Soviet Union over Nazi Germany in World War II.
“We will do everything to meet Slovakia's needs in terms of energy resources,” Putin told Fico, in comments broadcast on national television.
The Slovak prime minister chose not to participate in the Victory Day parade in Red Square, although Russian state media previously reported that Fico was going to participate in the parade.
EU member Slovakia has sought to maintain political ties with Russia and has argued that it would be too costly to give up Russian supplies after building its infrastructure around it.
