The premier of the Canadian province of Ontario, Doug Ford, announced on Friday the withdrawal of a televised advertising campaign against the increase in American customs duties, which led the US president, Donald Trump, to break off trade negotiations with Canada, notes AFP, taken over by Agerpres.
“Following discussions with (Canadian) Premier Mark Carney, Ontario will suspend its advertising campaign in the United States beginning Monday to allow trade negotiations to resume,” Doug Ford said on X.
He said the commercial will, however, air in the United States this weekend, particularly during the first two games of the North American Championship finals, which traditionally draw large audiences.
BREAKING: Trump is having a temper tantrum, ending ALL trade negotiations with Canada.
He's butthurt that they aired an ad of President Reagan that shows how dumb Trump's tariffs are.
It's VERY effective.
Be a shame if it went viral. 🇺🇲🇨🇦pic.twitter.com/fkCx0YNaHi— BrooklynDad_Defiant!☮️ (@mmpadellan) October 24, 2025
Donald Trump decided Thursday evening to break off all trade negotiations with Canada, accusing the Canadian authorities of twisting the words of his predecessor Ronald Reagan in an advertising campaign against the increase of customs tariffs between the two countries.

“The Ronald Reagan Foundation has just announced that Canada has fraudulently used an ad that is FALSE in which Ronald Reagan speaks negatively about tariffs,” the US president said in his message, attributing the campaign to the Canadian government rather than the province of Ontario.
The leader of the White House accused the Canadian authorities of “acting this way only to influence the decision of the Supreme Court of the USA and other courts”, where the legality of the decrees of the American president that triggered this increase in customs tariffs is contested.
