A small town in Italy will change its name to attract more tourists

The Italian coastal town “Vallecrosia” will change its name to “Vallecrosia al Mare” so that tourists will understand more easily that it is located by the sea, the citizens decided following a referendum whose results were published on Monday, DPA and Agerpres report.
The local consultation, which took place at the same time as the referendum on justice called by Giorgia Meloni's government, received a “yes” vote from 1,509 of the town's residents, being adopted with a 55% majority.
The town is located in the Liguria region of Italy, very close to the border with France.
The result was met with enthusiasm by the municipal administration, which has long supported the initiative as a way of revitalizing the city's image.
“Vallecrosia al Mare. Yes. Thank you to all the citizens who came out to vote, thank you to those who not only put their trust in us as administrators, but also in what is done in the city. Therefore, this result really makes us happy and gives us even more strength and motivation to continue our work,” said Mayor Fabio Perri.
“It's not just about adding the word “al Mare” to the name; we believe in Mare because we invest massively, so this is our guiding principle that aims to lead us to make Vallecrosia not only a tourist destination, but also a known and recognized city, with a quality and an identity that has been lacking for too many years”, he added, quoted by the Riviera24 website.
The mayor stated that in the next few days, all the procedures necessary to implement the new name will begin, from the modification of administrative documents to the updating of road signs and tourist promotion materials of the locality.
