The US Department of War (the new name of the Department of Defense) revoked the credentials and access of the majority of national and foreign media to its headquarters in the Pentagon, after the almost general rejection of the new rules that this institution imposed on the media and which journalists consider a restriction of freedom of expression, the EFE agency reported on Thursday, according to Agerpres.

Announced in September by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, the new rules set strict limits on journalists' physical access to Pentagon headquarters and the use of sources, as well as possible penalties for requesting public information without prior authorization.

The major American media refused to accept these conditions, so as of Wednesday, when the deadline for signing a pledge to comply with the new rules expired, they were without Pentagon credentials.

These media outlets include the New York Times, the Washington Post, Politico, Reuters and the Associated Press, television stations such as ABC News, CBS News, CNN, NBC News, and even the conservative Fox News, where Hegseth was a commentator before Trump appointed him to head the Pentagon.

Left without credentials, dozens of journalists vacated the offices at the Pentagon, where press correspondents had permanent work spaces. So far, only the conservative station One America News has accepted the institution's new conditions.

This institution has given up under Hegseth the weekly press conferences and detailed briefings on military operations, such as the recent attacks in the Caribbean on suspected narcotics boats.
