The peak will commemorate the 50th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between the EU and China – at a time when these relations are marked by commercial disputes and Europe's frustration due to China's help for Russia in the war against Ukraine.
Two EU diplomats said Politico that the summit would take place on July 24 and 25. This term was confirmed by two other people closely related to preparations. One of the diplomats said that The first day of the meeting will take place in Beijing and the second in Anhuiprovince located up the river from Shanghai, centered around the main industrial cities, such as Hefei and Wuhu.
The Chinese industry official admitted that the peak will take place in the last week of July. Like diplomats, this person was provided with anonymity because it was not authorized to comment on the peak planning.
The Union at the meeting will be represented by the chairwoman of the Ursula von der Leyen committee and the chairman of the European Council Antonio Costa. The European side hopes that the President of China XI Jinping will take part in the diplomatic anniversary, but This has not yet been confirmed.
One of the goals of the peak for China is EU abolition duties on electric vehicles. Last week, the Chinese Ministry of Trade announced that negotiations with Brussels in this matter are at the final stage.
The Chinese mission at the EU refused to comment, and the spokesperson could only say that the peak would take place in the second half of July. The commission did not answer the request for comment.
