The day before, US President Donald Trump, after a call with Putin, announced their imminent meeting in Budapest, Hungary. Orbán later wrote in X that he had discussed the future summit with the head of the White House.
“The peak of peace is in Budapest. Yesterday I spoke with President Trump on the phone, today President Putin is next. We have begun preparations. Hungary is ready!” the Hungarian Prime Minister wrote.
Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjártó yesterday enthusiastically called the news of Putin Trump's arrival “fantastic” in X. In the morning, he added that he was already in contact with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, and “the work is in full swing.”
Having consistently stood for peace since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, Hungary is ready to host the US–Russia summit. We'll ensure all conditions for productive talks so peace can finally return to Europe. Speak to @DeputySecState and FM Lavrov—preparations are ongoing.
