The girl told the police that she was a student at one of the universities and was now on academic leave. One day she received a call from the university management and was informed of the need to register on the educational institution’s new digital platform.

“Using the dictated link, the Norilsk woman tried to do this, for which she entered the password from the SMS into the window that appeared. Then a letter was sent to her email about her account on State Services being hacked and indicating a telephone number for contact. Having dialed it, the northerner learned that her personal data had been leaked, which could be exploited by attackers. An unknown interlocutor said that the girl could be accused of treason and convinced her to make money transfers to a “safe account.” Over the course of three days, the intimidated victim made transfers using the details given to her from her own account, and then from her husband’s account, ultimately losing more than 1.1 million rubles,” said the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Based on this fact, a criminal case was initiated under Part 4 of Art. 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, operational search activities and investigative actions are underway.
