The Moscow Architectural Institute assessed the appearance of the future cathedral on Strelka, taking into account the surrounding buildings. For this purpose, specialists visited Krasnoyarsk on September 21.

According to the press service of the Krasnoyarsk diocese, the conclusion addressed to the metropolitan was made by Alexey Kapustin, head of the scientific center of classical and traditional architecture. He noted that the appearance of the cathedral “will significantly enrich the character of the surrounding buildings and its silhouette.”

“The location is distinguished by convenient transport and pedestrian connections with the surrounding urban space. The construction of the cathedral within the designed parameters of the architectural volume represents a new stage in the development of the large-scale urban planning ensemble of Strelka and the system of its public spaces,” the conclusion says.

It is noted that the center specializes in assessing the synthesis of Orthodox and civil architecture with modern architecture. He participates in projects for the revival of churches and historical complexes in Russia and abroad.

It is planned to be rebuilt in the image of the main cathedral of Krasnoyarsk, built in 1861 by architect Konstantin Ton and demolished in 1936. Instead, in the 1950s, the regional government building was built, so a new location had to be found for the cathedral. In 2012, the site on Strelka was approved by Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus' during a visit to Krasnoyarsk. A year later the place was consecrated, and in 2017 the land was transferred to the church, abouthowever not all city dwellers approved the construction and several hearings were held on this matter.

In 2023, construction began on the embankment of a “small temple” in honor of the righteous Joachim and Anna, which will become part of the complex of the Cathedral of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. They will build it with money from sponsors, the estimate has already been determined – the work is estimated at 4 billion rubles.
