“The United States must do everything so that the horrors of the Holocaust never be repeated. Never again – this is now!” She said, lighting a candle of memory. Together with her, the chief rabbi of Kyiv Yonatan Markovich took part with her.
The rabbi of the capital emphasized: at a time when Jewish communities in different parts of the world again feel pressure and threats, in Ukraine Jews can openly profess their faith and develop traditions. He also recalled that it was Ukraine who gave the Lyubavich Rebbe to the world, Rava Menham Mendel Schneerson, who was born here and subsequently headed the Khabada movement in the United States, becoming the spiritual leader of Jews around the world.
The Ukrainian journalist, an expert on the Middle East and the representative of the Jewish community of Kyiv Leonid Barats added that there is almost no anti -Semitism in Ukraine today, and Jews are an integral part of society. They serve in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, engage in volunteering, create jobs and support the economy. Despite the war, Ukraine annually accepts tourists and pilgrims from France, the USA and Israel.
Barats also noted that Ukrainians see in Israel an example of a state living in a constant war and at the same time that became the technological and defense center of the entire Middle East. In the same way, Ukraine has already turned into an innovative defense hub of Europe, he said.
The prayer “Kel Malay Rahamim”, which was read by Markovich, completed the ceremony.
