President Donald Trump brought to light in the speech on Monday in the Israeli Parliament the considerable influence of Mega-Donator Miriam Adelson on US policy towards Israel, reminding her frequent visits to her husband, the Magnat of Sheldon Adelson, Reuters reports.

Sheldon Adelson, who died in 2021, built the largest casino empire in the world as director of Las Vegas Sands Corp and invested much of his wealth in support of conservative politicians and policies.

Both Adelson spouses were known for their philanthropy and their business in Israel, as well as for donations to Jewish causes.

“She loves Israel,” Trump said Monday before Knesset, the unicameral Parliament of Israel. He attributed to the couple the role of influencing the decisions he made during his first term of president, such as the recognition of Jerusalem in 2017 as the capital of Israel, the move in 2018 of the US Embassy to the Holy City and the 2019 support of the Israeli sovereignty on the Holan High.

Making a gesture to Adelson, a doctor born in Israel and major donor of his presidential campaigns, Trump said:

“Get up, Miriam,” before telling how the Adelson family contacted him and visited him in the Oval Office.

She joked that her husband was so persistent that “she would have entered the window”, comments that Reuters notes that she emphasized the extraordinary access and the impact of the couple on the Trump administration. With a smile on his lips, the US president on Monday said about Miriam Adelson that he “has $ 60 billion in the bank.”

Then he added, stirring laughter: “I think she says,” No, more “.” He praised her as “a wonderful woman” whose devotion was so deep that she once refused to say what country she loves more-Israel or the United States.

Trump awarded to Miriam Adelson's highest civil distinction during his first term of president

A high American official told Reuters that Miriam Adelson played a role behind the scenes, urging the White House to continue the efforts to release the hostages that Hamas abducted from Israel in his bloody attack on October 7, 2023.

The last survivors returned to Israel on Monday, as part of the armistice mediated by the Trump administration between Israel and Hamas.

In 2018, Trump awarded Miriam Adelson “Presidential Medal of Freedom”, mentioning that he supported the research in the field of addiction, founded medical centers together with her regretted husband and contributed to the launch of the Adelson research foundation.

Miriam Adelson was born Miriam Farbstein in Tel Aviv in 1945, from parents who fled from Poland before the Holocaust. In the 1950s, her family settled in Haifa, where her father owned and managed several cinemas. He attended Real's Hebrew school for 12 years.

Prior to marriage to Sheldon, Miriam was married to Ariel Ochshorn, also a doctor, with whom he had two daughters. The couple divorced until 1986.
