Donald Trump's surprising words about tomahawks for Ukraine. “I need to talk to Putin”
— We talked about the weapons they need, the types of weapons they need, they really need the Patriots, they would really like to have the Tomahawks. (…) We talked about it and so on, we'll see. Honestly, I'll probably have to talk to Russia (…). Do they want tomahawks heading towards them? “I don't think so,” Trump said.
— Honestly, I told this to President Zelensky because tomahawks are a new stage of aggression (…) First, I would talk to Putin and I could say: “listen, if this war is not resolved, I will send them tomahawks,” he added.
This is yet another statement by the American president on this subject. Previously, Donald Trump claimed that he had “sort of already made the decision” about transferring the missiles, adding that he would like to find out how the Ukrainians will use them.
On Sunday, in an interview with Fox News, Zelensky assured that the missiles that Ukraine may obtain – provided the US consents – will only be used to attack military targets in Russia. – This is the difference between us and Russia – he emphasized.
Russia, in turn, announced a harsh response if American cruise missiles are transferred to Ukraine.
