The skater Julia Sauter officially becomes a Romanian citizen. Will compete under the tricolor at the 2026 Olympic Games

The skater, born in Germany, was in an excellent form at the European Championships held in February of this AI, where he confirmed that he can bring to Romania an important result.
During Thursday, Julia Sauter officially received Romanian citizenship, becoming eligible to compete for our country at the Olympics, according to the announcement made by the Romanian Olympic and Sports Committee.
The decision was approved by the Government of Romania, by the signature of Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan.
Sauter is the first athlete to get a qualifying place for Romania at the 2026 Winter Olympics. At the European Championships in 2025, it ended on the 7th place, the best result in his career, but also a historic performance for the Romanian artistic skating. It was coached by Marius Negrea, and is currently preparing under the guidance of Roxana Luca.
2025, the year with the highest achievements for Julia Sauter
In February, Julia Sauter managed to register the best result in the career at the European Artistic skating championships in Tallinn. There he finished in the 7th place in the individual female test. The competition was won by Estoniana Niina Petokina, located at her first European title.
After completing the short program in the tenth position, Julia had an excellent performance in the free program, where she ranked 8th, accumulating a total of 172.64 points. This result brought the 7th place in the final ranking and represents its best performance so far. Until the Tallinn edition, its best result in European was the 9th place, obtained the previous year.
