US President Donald Trump thanked Vladimir Putin for criticizing the elections of the Nobel committee, which, according to the Russian leader, has lost its credibility. The American president also drew attention to the statement of the winner, Maria Corina Machado, who expressed gratitude to him for his support.

“Thank you President Putin!” – Trump wrote on the Truth Social website, commenting on a video of the Russian leader's speech from Tajikistan, where he stated that the Nobel Prizes go to “those who have done nothing for peace” and that this makes the prize and the committee lose credibility.

Putin also alluded to awarding the Nobel Peace Prize to Barack Obama.

– What for? He didn't do anything! – Putin said during his visit to Dushanbe. He praised Trump's efforts to achieve peace in the Middle East.

In addition to thanking Putin, Trump also posted on his account an entry from this year's award winner, Venezuelan oppositionist Maria Corina Machado.

“This enormous recognition of the struggle of all Venezuelans is an impulse to complete our task: to win Freedom,” wrote the Nobel Prize winner.

“We stand on the threshold of victory and today, more than ever, we can count on President Trump, the people of the United States, the nations of Latin America and the democratic nations of the world as our main allies to achieve Freedom and Democracy,” she added.

The nomination for Machado, the leader of the opposition against the authoritarian rule of Nicolas Maduro in Venezuela, was proposed by a number of Republican politicians, including current Secretary of State Marco Rubio and ambassador to the UN Michael Waltz.

Trump, who has argued for months that he deserves the Nobel Prize, has not yet directly commented on the Norwegian committee's selection. However, he was criticized by White House communications director Steven Cheung.

“President Trump will continue to make peace agreements, end wars and save lives. He has the soul of a humanitarian and there will never be anyone like him who could move mountains with sheer force of will,” Cheung wrote on the X website. “The Nobel Committee has proven that politics is more important to him than peace,” he added.
