The Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs reported the termination of citizenship of more than 2.8 thousand citizens for committing criminal offenses and failure to register with the military.
“2875 decisions on termination of citizenship have been made since the beginning of the Federal Law of April 28, 2023 No. 138-FZ “On Citizenship of the Russian Federation” by the territorial bodies of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia,” – wrote official representative of the ministry Irina Volk in the telegram channel with reference to the migration service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The main reasons for the termination of citizenship were the entry into force of a court verdict on criminal liability for committing a number of crimes and the failure of citizens to fulfill the obligation to initially register with the military.
According to Volk, the institution of termination of citizenship “is aimed primarily at increasing the effectiveness of countering persons who have been granted Russian citizenship, whose activities entail threats to national and public security.”
