A politician born in Ukraine, close to Basescu, will advise President Nicuşor Dan on Romanians everywhere

MEP Eugen Tomac was appointed, on Monday, honorary presidential adviser for the relationship with Romanians everywhere by President Nicuşor Dan. Tomac was the only politician who went on stage with Dan on May 19, when he learned, live, the results of the first Poll after the presidential election. E also worked in the presidential administration on the same position, in the second term of Traian Basescu.

Eugen Tomac is in the second mandate of MEP from the Party of the People's Movement and had two deputy mandates in the Romanian Parliament (2012-2019). In the European Legislature, he is part of the political group Renew Europe, along with Dan Barna and Vlad Voiculescu (USR).

Eugen Tomac was born in 1981 in the village of Babele, Sofian-Tartavca commune, in Ismail district, Odessa region, in the former Soviet Socialist Republic of Ukrainian. He came to Romania at 17, through a scholarship program offered by the Government of Romania to the Romanian Ethnicities around the border. He started his career as a journalist in publications such as the day, confluence, Radio Romania Cultural, TVR or the magazine “Historical Magazine”.

When he was a presidential adviser

Between 2005-2008, in the mandate of President of Traian Basescu, Eugen Tomac worked in the Presidential Administration also a counselor on issues related to Romanians everywhere.

In 2008, he candidate for a successful deputy from the Liberal Democrat Party. Since 2009, he has been secretary of state in the governments Emil Boc and Mihai Răzvan Ungureanu and has been in charge of the Department for Romanians everywhere, during the period when the procedure for regaining the Romanian citizenship for citizens of Moldova was simplified. In 2012, he was appointed as a state counselor at the Department of International Relations and European Policies within the Presidential Administration. Also from 2012, he was elected deputies in the Romanian Parliament from the PDL, where he remained for two mandates.

Eugen Tomac graduated from the Faculty of History of the University of Bucharest in 2003, and since 2006 he enrolled in the doctorate at the same faculty, but has not completed any research work.

Disputed the PMP chief with another presidential counselor

Eugen Tomac is currently the president of the People's Movement Party, following a decision of the Bucharest Court, after a process in which the party head was disputed by another counselor of President Nicuşor Dan, Cristian Diaconescu, the coordinator of the Presidential Administration.

After the court's decision, Tomac said that “after more than three years of harassment and challenges, justice did justice” and that the decision confirms the will of the PMP members, a party based by Traian Basescu.

What wealth does Eugen Tomac have

Eugen Tomac owns two urban lands in the town of August 23 in Constanţa county (1,300 m2) and, near Cheila Bicazului, in the village of Bârnadu in Neamţ (3,886 m2), according to his last declarations of wealth, completed in 2024. He also has two homes in Belgium: an apartment bought in Brussels Charleroi (353 m2), purchased in 2023. They are held with his wife Diana Postică.

Tomac also has two cars, an Audi Q5 and a Dacia Sandero, and about 130,000 euros, representing either contributions to investment funds or bank deposits, in several accounts in banks. It also has cryptocurrencies worth about $ 25,000. It also has debts of 50,000 euros for two natural persons and almost 300,000 euros, representing loans to banks.
